Croton-Harmon Fourth-Graders Embrace Colonial Life

Students donned colonial attire for the annual day of activities inspired by settlers.

From Carrie E Tompkins School: Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School fourth-grade students in Croton-on-Hudson learned what life was like for some of the country’s earliest European settlers as part of the annual Colonial Day celebration.

“Dressed in colonial garb – waistcoats, breeches, cloaks, cravats, trousers, shifts, caps and wigs – students participated in various colonial activities and games,” said Principal Kelly Maloney. “They enjoyed eating foods similar to what was prepared in colonial times.”

In addition, students learned how to sew and crafted their own pillows as one of the activities. The day was made possible with the help of parent volunteers.
