The VaZa Salon is open for business on Ossining's Main Street, says co-owner Zamira Cutra.
Cutra is partnered with her sister, hair stylist Val Tana. (Together their first names combine to make the name VaZa).
The sisters rented the first floor of the old Ossining National Bank building on Main Street back in June but it took until September to get all the work permits in order. Then they acted fast, with contractors getting the work done in mere weeks rather the months or years it takes most ventures. The space, as you can quickly tell, is beautiful.

“The building has been vacant for 30 years,” Cutra says, “so it’s kind of a big deal.”
While new owners Trinity Group did major renovations to the whole building and are selling upper floors as condos, the first floor still needed HVAC, a boiler and all the equipment it takes to put a salon in order.

Cutra packed up her husband and children and have actually been living with her parents in Somers to save money for the business. It’s the first business she’s embarking on and she’s excited to do it Ossining.
“We knew it was the right place and thought it was worth it to take that risk,” Cutra says. “We’re really proud of being in this building and in this town.”
