Smoke in Croton Likely From Harriman State Park Fire
The smoke in parts of Croton today was likely caused by a fire across the river.
A fire that started in Harriman State Park Monday is the most likely cause of the smoke in sections of Croton-on-Hudson. Bob Huslinger of the Stony Point Fire Deparment confirmed that a fire started in the park earlier in the day Monday.
Around 7 p.m. the smoke was visible and could be smelt from Route 9 near Buchanan and in the surrounding areas. Patch Facebook users report that they noticed the smoke near the following areas: the Amberlands, Franklin and South Streets, Bear Mountain Bridge Road, Montrose, Buchanan and Verplanck. Thanks to all our Facebook fans for your reports.
Park rangers were working on knocking out the fire, Huslinger said. He did not know the cause or size of the fire.

Earlier Monday, Westchester County issued a ban on fires in county parks but did not mention any incident in Harriman. The alert noted that the high winds, low relative humidity and little rain causes an increased risk of fire.
