New to Croton: Sunshine & Clover Shop

Emily Prince quickly turned "a tiny awkward shaped space into a bright, happy, colorful little slice of happiness in the Upper Village."

Sunshine & Clover now graces Croton’s Grand Street (which just gets better and better!) with flowers, gifts, décor designs and undeniable cuteness.

"I've noticed that my customers haven't been able to leave the shop without saying the word cute once," says owner Emily Prince, only under one month into this venture.

The shop is all decked out for spring with very inviting and eclectic items from poof balls, mix-and-match party supplies, Gummy Bear Nightlights, and…a Mustachifier (already rendered trendy by local blog EverythingCroton). In this colorful world, Prince feels she can combine her talents and experience to the fullest.

"Before opening a little under a month ago," she said, "I've been doing flowers out of my home for large fundraisers, restaurants, and private homes. I've been a stay at home mom for the past twelve years and felt the best way for me to return to the work world was to combine all my hobbies: flowers, gardening, party planning, decorating, and shopping for cute stuff!"

Prince has lived in Croton for the last 10 years (she hails from New Rochelle) and said she has been eyeing this space for a while. "The timing was right."

The shop only took about three months from “idea to concept to creation,” Prince said. And it seems to have only taken opening day to be a hit.

In addition to party supplies and gifts for all ages, the flowers are the main draw. Prince says the customers have been raving about their staying power, and says she makes a pilgrimage to the flower market twice a week. She likes to work with what's new, with textures, with people's tastes (even their own vases, if they wish) and whatever size budget. She also reminds everyone Mother's Day is coming. That's Sunday, May 12; get ready!

Shop hours are Wednesday and Thursday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 1 to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. "We stay open late if the village is crowded," Prince writes, raving about all the offerings of the Upper Village, a real destination these days.

“While there is always more to do, I am thrilled with the results, and managed to turn a tiny awkward shaped space into a bright, happy, colorful little slice of happiness in the Upper Village,” she said.
