OPINION: Vote YES for the Ossining Bond Referendum
Briarcliff Manor resident Christopher Caparelli writes about why you should vote for the Ossining bond referendum in his letter to the editor.

Dear Editor:
Vote YES for the bond referendum on March 6. A YES vote will enhance property values. A YES vote will avert substantial annual budget increases in the future. A YES vote will take advantage of millions of dollars of State building aid. A YES vote says we take pride in our schools and our community. Most importantly, a YES vote for the Ossining bond referendum is a vote for the children who will learn and grow in schools that are among the best in Westchester County – in other words, in schools that are among the best in the country.
It is vital for the Ossining community to understand that this bond is not expected to increase their taxes because it will be offset by state aid and payoff of older loans. Simply put, the bond will provide enormous benefits at no additional cost to the Ossining taxpayer -- a “win-win.”
Ironically, a no vote essentially assures higher taxes. That’s because the bond will pay for infrastructure repairs, such as the decaying walls at the middle school and the replacement of decades-old heating systems, before a catastrophic situation occurs. If the bond is not approved, and a wall collapses or a boiler breaks down, emergency repairs will be required and will be paid for through annual budget tax increases.
Our schools are a reflection of ourselves and our priorities. A YES vote on March 6 re-affirms our priority in our community’s children.
Very truly yours,
Christopher M. Caparelli
