OPINION: Voting in Favor of Ossining Bond Referendum

Ossining resident Alex Jeffrey writes about why he is voting in favor of the bond referendum.

To the Editor:

I am a proud Ossining resident who wholeheartedly supports the upcoming zero tax increase Ossining School bond referendum.  Over the past years, we in Ossining have enjoyed commercial and residential development, enhancing our community for all on many levels.  Our public library and community center are truly unmatched in neighboring towns, and our parks, increased and varied dining options and community events (such as the Fireman’s Parade, Farmer’s Market, street fairs and festivals), just to identify a few aspects of our Town, make Ossining a wonderful town and village in which to live and raise a family.  The March 6 revised zero tax increase school bond now presents us with a welcomed, well-planned, responsible and indispensable opportunity to upgrade perhaps the most important asset in any community -- our schools.  The current physical conditions and infrastructure of our schools (to which the revised bond is directed) are in dire need of repair, and, frankly, should accentuate the core of our community, rather than exist as an example of neglect.  The time to act is now, and the downside for supporting this referendum (with a zero tax increase) is nil.  I hope all my fellow Ossining neighbors join me in supporting our community’s ongoing betterment.
