Ossining-Croton 2012 Election Guide

As we look ahead to November’s elections, Ossining-Croton Patch is devoted to bringing you the information you need about every race, issue and candidate.

Here are a few races that people are already talking about:

• Republican Kim Izzarelli will run against incumbent Democrat Sandy Galef. Galef has been the assemblywoman for New York's 95th District for two decades. Izzarelli is a pension and employee benefits consultant, who for a seat on the Ossining Town Board last year.

• Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Rockland/Westchester) is seeking re-election on the heels of her 19 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. In the past two years, Lowey has served the 18th district, a swath that come November. If elected, Lowey would then pick up Mt. Kisco and all of Rockland County, and overall see the newly-crafted 17th shift further north.

• State Sen. David Carlucci (D-New City) is running for a second term in the 38th State Senate District. The district was redrawn earlier this year and will include the Towns of Ramapo, Clarkstown, and Orangetown in Rockland County, as well as the Town of Ossining in Westchester County. Former Ossining Village Trustee and Deputy Mayor Janis Castaldi is the Republican nominee to run against Carlucci. She won the nomination of the Republican Committees of Rockland and Westchester counties.

• As the race for the White House heats up, Patch will focus on how the national election affects people here. We'll also be tracking the Republican primaries, which come to a close in June 26.
