Ossining Farmers Market: On This Weekend, Off the Next, Resumes January

From Down to Earth Community Markets comes the following update on Ossining's market. Note the market is on this Saturday, Dec. 21, closes for Dec. 28, and then resumes winter hours on Jan. 4:

One of the longest running farmers markets in Westchester County, Ossining’s Down to Earth Farmers Market, is only getting stronger as it plans to open for its 23rd year on Saturday, January 4th, 2014. Located year-around, outdoors, at the corner of Spring and Main Streets in downtown Ossining, the winter market will run on Saturdays, from 9 am to 1 pm.

Vendor registrations continue to come in, and at press time, the confirmed full-season vendors are: Pura Vida Fisheries, Meredith’s Bread, John D. Madura Farms, Gajeski Produce, Mead Orchards, Tierra Farm (locally-roasted nuts, coffees, and more) Kiernan Farm (pasture-raised livestock), Orwasher’s Bakery, Feather Ridge Farm (pasture-raised meats and poultry), and Pickle Licious. Hudson River Apiaries and The Peanut Principle (organic, gourmet peanut
butters) will appear at the market as day vendors, as well. Stay tuned to the Ossining webpage at DowntoEarthMarkets.com for the latest updates on vendors and events, such as cooking demos and music at the market.

The outdoor winter market offers fresh food – and fresh air! – with regional farmers who embrace a lifestyle of working with Nature every day. Vendors can bring heat lamps for their tents, and the market manager invites everyone to warm up at the heater in her tent on days below 40 degrees.

The outdoor winter market venue in Ossining illustrates Down to Earth Markets 2014 Marketing Initiative: “Try It!” For over two decades, Down to Earth Markets has been creating markets full of local farmers and food makers. Yet some people remain shy towards a busy market with new and different offerings. Also, some of the vendors’ lesser-known products get packed up at markets’ end.
In celebration of all there is to explore at Down to Earth Farmers Markets, we welcome everyone in with the words: Try It!

Frankie Rowland, Director of Marketing and Community Relations, explains: “This year’s marketing theme is an invitation to everybody to try all that the farmers market has to offer. For example, our farmers grow produce varieties only available at the markets, and we encourage people to experiment with them. People might pick up a bunch of black radishes and say, ‘What do I do with
this?’. Well, let’s Try It!”

Down to Earth Farmers Markets started our first farmers market in Ossining, NY in 1991. Today we curate and manage approximately twenty farmers markets in Westchester County, Rockland County, and in New York City. We believe that seasonal, local food is a vital part of our heritage that ensures the health of our communities and environment. DowntoEarthMarkets.com
