Ossining police made the rounds on Nov. 26 to no less than 25 establishments -- delis, bars and liquor stores -- to see if any of them were selling alcohol to minors.
Only one of 25 got busted -- a 21-year-old cashier at 107 Spring Street deli/grocery La Chuchara was arrested for not asking for identification and selling a 19-year-old beer.
The Ossining resident was charged with violating of the state's Alcohol Beverage Act prohibiting sale to a minor under the age of 21. She was given an upcoming court date.
What's more incredible than the bust, notes Lt. William Sullivan, is that that establishment was the only one of such a large group.
"It shows that the Ossining Police Department and Community Cares conducting stings and following up with education and instruction to these venues -- that apparently they've been working," Sullivan said.
He said the police and Community Cares' efforts to curb underage alcohol sales and provide education to curb underage drinking and sales to minors has been going on for about four years.
Note: An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
