A Finney Farm Road resident knew he was being scammed and called police to report the strange phone call he received right away.
He told Croton police he got a call from an unknown man saying he was a sweepstakes winner. The caller gave him instructions for how to send two money orders totaling $1,500. When they received the money they would give the man the winning number. The man shared the phone number they used with police, who are investigating.
"Put it out there so others don't don't fall into this trap," Sgt. John Nikitopoulos said, and "believe it or not, they do," he added.
