Should Ossining Have Bagged its Meters for the Holidays?

Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown offer free parking during the holiday season, but why not Ossining?

One resident shared the following letter to Patch:

Last year, well before the holiday season, I asked Ossining's ENTIRE administration if they would be "bagging" the parking meters throughout the Village for the holiday shoppers. By this I mean putting a canvas bag over the meter so that people don't have to pay for parking. No ever replied to me and the holiday season came and went. But not before (probably) hundreds of shoppers got over-time parking tickets. The ticket recipients either paid the $30 parking ticket or went to Ossining TOWN Justice Court, that's already over-burdened with outstanding parking tickets dating back to 1985 (yes, 1985), to fight it and spent a few hours in Court.

Ossining Village administration exclaims proudly how much they want to revitalize Ossining's downtown and get more businesses to move into our community. So much so they even hired a part-time Downtown Development whatever at $50K/yearly. Anyway...

MANY Westchester municipalities bag their parking meters during the holiday season. Maybe if your media sites write an item about this it will push Ossining Village to do what's right by holiday shoppers and our starving local businesses. Thank you.
