Police ID Women Killed in North Patchogue House Fire

There were reportedly no working smoke detectors inside the home.

UPDATE 4:40 p.m.: Kimberley Bonsignore, 54, and Brenda Richardson, 56, have been identified as the women who were killed in the fire. Detectives believe Bonsignore was the homeowner. The investigation is continuing.

NORTH PATCHOGUE, NY – Two women were killed in an overnight house fire in Suffolk County early Monday, police said.

According to Suffolk Police, male resident returning home to 86 Sinn St. in North Patchogue discovered the fire shortly before 1:30 a.m. and called 911. Fifth Precinct officers arrived on the scene at 1:33 a.m. and attempted to enter through the front door, but they and were forced back by flames.

Patrol Sgt. Michael Guerrisi and officers Taylor Herbst and William Boyd gained access to the basement, where they woke a 47-year-old male resident and brought him safely out of the house, police said.

The resident was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue with non-life threatening injuries. Herbst sustained a back injury during the rescue and was transported to the same hospital for treatment.

After the fire was extinguished, the bodies of two adult females were located inside. The women, both residents of the home, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The North Patchogue, Patchogue, Holbrook and Medford fire departments responded to the scene.

A preliminary investigation by Arson Section detectives has determined the cause of the fire to be non-criminal. There were no working smoke detectors inside the home, ABC 7 reported.
