3 Pedestrians Killed on Long Island Roadways
Three people were fatally struck by cars in three separate crashes just hours apart, police say.
Three people were struck and killed by cars in three separate crashes just hours apart on Long Island Saturday night and early Sunday, police said.
The first crash occurred in Hempstead around 7 p.m. According to Nassau Police, 31-year-old Israel Lopez-Perez was attempting to cross South Franklin Avenue, north of Sterling Place when he was struck by a 2017 Nissan Rogue.
Lopez-Perez, who has no known address, suffered multiple trauma injuries and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Rogue, a 25-year-old woman, remained at the scene.

The second crash occurred in Elmont at 8:25 p.m. Terrence Reid, of Valley Stream, was attempting to cross Linden Boulevard, east of 237th Street, when he was struck by a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said.
Reid, 55, suffered multiple trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The driver of the Jeep, a 53-year-old man, remained at the scene.

The third crash occurred in East Patchogue at about 2:30 a.m. According to Suffolk Police, a 36-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were crossing Montauk Highway, near Orchard Road, when the woman was struck by an eastbound 2008 Honda Accord.
The woman, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where she was pronounced dead. The man, who was not seriously injured, was transported to the same hospital for evaluation. The driver of the Honda, a 31-year-old Bellport man, was not injured.
No criminal charges were filed in any of the crashes.
