Bellport Woman, 77, Dies After Being Struck By Tractor-Trailer: PD
She was walking on the Sunrise Highway at 1:50 a.m. when she was hit, police say.
NORTH BELLPORT, NY — A Bellport woman died after she was struck by a tractor-trailer on the Sunrise Highway early Tuesday, police said.
According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place in the westbound lane of the Sunrise Highway, east of Exit 55, at about 1:50 a.m. Maureen Howley, 77, was walking in the right lane of westbound Sunrise Highway when she was struck by a 2015 Kenworth tractor-trailer, police said.
She was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Laura Valcich, 30, of East Hampton, was not injured; no charges were filed, police said.
Motor Carrier Safety Section officers performed a safety check of the Kenworth at the scene. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
