DWI Arrest After Crash That Injures 2 on Sunrise Highway

A 39-year-old man was arrested after the crash Saturday night, police say.

PATCHOGUE, NY – A man was arrested after a crash on Sunrise Highway Saturday night that injured himself and a passenger in a another vehicle, police said.

According to Suffolk Police, officers responded to a crash on eastbound Sunrise Highway near Waverly Avenue at about 8 p.m.

A 2011 Chevy Tahoe with a car trailer in tow collided with a 2002 Honda Odyssey. The driver of the Odyssey, 39-year-old Michael Samartino, was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue with non-life threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Tahoe was taken to the same hospital with minor neck and back pain. Eastbound Sunrise Highway was closed for about 90 minutes after the crash.

Samartino, of Shirley, was arrested and charged with DWI, police said.
