BELLPORT, NY — As Long Islanders practice social distancing and make personal sacrifices in the fight against the new coronavirus pandemic, many look to those on the front lines as inspiration. Patch is highlighting Long Islanders who are going above and beyond to help during the COVID-19 health crisis.
Jenny Rice is a health care worker who has nominated her friend Meghan Cullen, calling her "absolutely a hero."
Cullen is an EMT with the FDNY who was on administrative leave after being in an ambulance accident. As coronavirus cases spread throughout New York City, she voluntarily went back to work.

"When she is home it’s to wash her uniform and try and get some sleep to be recharged for double shifts, mandated shifts, and emotional and heart-breaking shifts," Rice said. "She travels an hour and a half to and from work every day, knowing there will be lives that she will save and lives she cannot save despite her efforts. She is my hero every day."
