Handicapped Parking Violations Crackdown Over Holidays In Suffolk
Fines could be up to $160 or more. Suffolk Sheriff Errol Toulon says its to ensure that the people who need the spaces get them.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — The Suffolk Sheriff’s office is cracking down on illegal parking in handicap spaces throughout the county through New Year’s Day.
Deputy Sheriffs will be directing additional enforcement efforts to the Vehicle and Traffic Law violations and fines could be as much as $160.00 or more.
Sheriff Errol Toulon said that the purpose of the enforcement is "to act as a deterrent to the illegal use of handicap parking spots, especially during the holiday season."

"Illegal parking in these designated spots creates an additional hardship for the residents of Suffolk County who actually are in need of these spaces," he said.
