Man Charged With DWI After Striking Pedestrian: Police

A 27-year-old Long Island man is in critical condition.

EAST PATCHOGUE, NY – A man was arrested on a DWI charge after he struck a pedestrian with his minivan Saturday evening in East Patchogue, police said.

According to police, 27-year-old Darwin Lopez was crossing East Main Street at Evergreen Avenue when he was struck by an eastbound 2003 Dodge Caravan driven by 49-year-old Jose Pina at 6:24 p.m.

Lopez, of East Patchogue, was transported by North Patchogue Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Pina, of East Patchogue, was charged with DWI. He was held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Sunday morning.
