PATCHOGUE, NY—With holidays approaching and many Long Islanders experiencing food insecurity due to the coronavirus pandemic, one Long Island business and one charity teamed up to donate over 600 turkeys to Island Harvest. That Meetball Place, a restaurant with locations in Farmingdale and Patchogue, worked with The Promise of Hope Foundation to drop off 10,000 pounds of turkeys to be given to families in need.

Besides 656 turkeys, the volunteers dropped off 600 boxes of stuffing, and 600 cans of cranberries to Island Harvest's Hauppauge food bank.

Island Harvest is one of Long Island's leading food relief organizations, and they delivered donated food to a network of hundreds of food pantries across Suffolk and Nassau counties.

"Promise of Hope Foundation is excited to be able to make someone’s Thanksgiving a little bit better this year," a news release from the Copiague-based nonprofit read.

Island Harvest told CBS New York in September that the pandemic has created a crisis, with unprecedented numbers of families seeking food assistance. The organization estimated 200,000 families are seeking their help and the daily food boxes cannot meet the increased demand in 2020.
