- Help the environment by recycling your Christmas Tree at Smith Point Beach. Each tree will help to prevent the dunes erosion. The drop-offs are accepted every day from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The discarded trees are stacked along the snow fence line so that they catch wind-blown sand and help build up barrier dunes on the beach. Upon arrival, the Suffolk County Parks Department asks donors to check-in at the office, and they will direct people to the tree drop-off spot. For more information, call (631)-852-1314.
