1. Veteran civil rights activist Susan Butler will be at Patchogue-Medford Library on Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m. to share her experiences of the March on Washington, Freedom Summer, and demonstrations for voting rights in Selma, Alabama. (PMPL)

3. A deer was rescued in Shirley by police officers after falling into ice and being stuck for hours. They lifted the animal out of the freezing water using a sled and a rope. (WABC-TV)
4. Nearby News: A man from Coram was taken to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson after being attacked outside of the North Isle Apartments on Gibbs Road on Friday morning. The suspect slashed the victim's face. No arrests were made. (Port Jefferson Patch)
