Here are the top stories in Patchogue today:

  1. The Suffolk County Police Department helped a special-needs teen and his mother to get home after a ferry was canceled. Jacob, 16-year-old who is minimally verbal and uses a communication device when his speech is unintelligible, clearly expressed his love of police after being helped. Police also drove a small parade to Jacob's house in Bayport on Dec. 16., with Santa after learning the teen's love for the police department. (LI Advance)
  2. Omicron variant is canceling holiday plans for tons of travelers - but it didn’t do much damage to holiday shopping. Lots of flights were canceled on Christmas weekend but shoppers shrugged off the omicron variant, and holiday sales rose at the fastest pace in 17 years, according to one spending measure. (News12)
  3. Patchogue Public Library will have a month full of events on the Black History Month in January. February is Black History Month and to get ready, the library will offer programs inspired by civil rights icons including Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglass and W.E.B. Du Bois.
