PATCHOGUE, NY — Peace poles have been going up around Patchogue, including one at the Patchogue-Medford Library in September. The latest peace pole is being erected in honor of musician and "peace activist" John Lennon at The Rock Underground Music School at 15-17 Oak Street in Patchogue Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The effort to dedicate peace poles across Long Island is spearheaded by the Long Island Peace Pole Project which says its goals are to plant 100 poles in 202o and 2021, involve youth groups in plantings as much as possible and have towns on Long Island be recognized as "International Cities of Peace."

The poles read "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in four languages. According to the group's website"the Peace Poles come with a certificate stating that ten trees will be planted in an African country in honor of someone or organization named on the certificate."
