2011's Top Five Weirdest Crimes in the Area

Unfortunately the Peekskill-Cortlandt area saw its share of burglaries, drug arrests, assaults and DWIs in 2011. And while there is usually a sad story behind most crimes, here are Peekskill-Cortlandt's top five strangest crimes of the year.

A Brooklyn resident took a train up to Garrison, broke into a home, stuffed his pockets with jewelry, made pancakes, had some cereal, put the dishes in the dishwasher, and took a nap in a recliner. The homeowner was startled to find him sleeping when she came home, but the police had no trouble making the arrest.

2.    Sticky Fingers at a Wedding

A Yonkers woman was arrested for stealing money out of guests purses at a wedding held at the Lake Peekskill Community Center.

3.    Reverse Prostitution Sting

A Peekskill man and Cortlandt woman ran a prostitution scam on Craigslist in which they lured “Johns” to meet the woman for sex. Once the victims showed up for the illegal rendezvous, the man and woman pretended to be crooked cops who demanded money in exchange for the victims’ freedom and anonymity.

In August, a Pennsylvania man was arrested for speeding and cutting off another boat while jet-skiing drunk in the Hudson River near the Bear Mountain Bridge.

A Peekskill man was arrested for grabbing a woman’s breast and then chasing her after she broke free on N. Division Street in October. The woman was ok. The man was arrested for forcible touching.
