Duane Jackson and Richard Becker's Hometown of Cortlandt Endorses Richard Becker for Congress

Press release from Cortlandt Democratic Committee: After hosting for all four declared candidates for New York’s 19th Congressional District, the Town of Cortlandt Democratic Committee enthusiastically endorses Richard Becker for Congress.
The candidates forum was held Tuesday night at the Old School House in Verplanck. The Cortlandt Democratic Committee heard 15 minute presentations from several judicial candidates in addition to presentations from the four congressional candidates. After concluding the forum, the committee met and unanimously endorsed Richard Becker.
Cortlandt Democratic Committee Chairman Seth Freach said, “To have the best chance of defeating Tea Party Republican Nan Hayworth, the committee felt a responsibility to rally behind a strong candidate. Not only does Richard Becker know the issues and the needs of our community, but he has the most funding, the most support among community leaders, and the best organized campaign.”

Richard Becker has been deeply involved in Cortlandt for years, from organizing opposition to a local land developer to serving as Town Councilman for two consecutive terms.
“The number of candidates entering this race is a direct result of the fact that so many people in the Hudson Valley, so many communities, just feel ignored by Nan Hayworth. I think it’s a good thing for all of us to be involved in this process because the more attention that we can all focus on this district, the more chance we have of moving the country forward again,” said Richard Becker.

In January, a federal court ruling set the primary election date for congressional races in New York State to June 26th. This date means that petition signature gathering, which candidates need to appear on the ballot, will begin next month, in March. NY-19 covers all of the Town of Cortlandt, as well as Northern Westchester, Putnam, Southern Dutchess, and parts of Orange and Rockland Counties.
