(New York, NY – February 24, 2012) On Monday, February 27, 2012, Duane Jackson, a dominate force in his community, the man who saved New York, and disabled Vietnam veteran, will announce his candidacy to represent New York's 19th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The press conference will be held at the Village of Buchanan City Hall, 236 Tate Avenue, Buchanan, N.Y. 10511

Mr. Jackson will be a candidate in the Democratic Primary. He is running to unseat Nan Hayworth, a freshman Republican member of Congress who sits on the Financial Services Committee and won in the Tea Party wave of 2010.

Many know Jackson from the terrorist scare in Times Square on May 1, 2010, when he alerted the New York Police Department to a suspicious car that was strapped with explosives.  The bomb-laden vehicle in the Broadway Theater District of New York City, one of the busiest areas of the U.S., contained enough fire power to take out an entire block.

Others know Jackson as a vigilant fighter. When Vietnam Veteran Jackson sees something, he is compelled to speak out. Consequently, after careful consideration, consultation with his family; and urging from veterans, students, seniors, and constituents from the 19th Congressional District, Jackson is headed to the nation’s capital to contribute his solutions approach to legislation.

“People in my district are tired of the partisan bickering,” said Duane Jackson, Candidate, NY-19 Congressional District. “We deserve better representation than what we currently have, which is the Republican platform of inaction."

Jackson added, “The United States is at a crossroads. We need people who understand how real people live in this country. My business is in Times Square, the crossroads of the world, and I see and speak with people from all over.  Everyone has the same concerns about the Congress that it is not solving the nation’s problems. The Republicans are so focused on defeating President Obama that they are forgetting that real people live outside the Beltway.”

“I want to see a tax policy that brings jobs back to America, innovation in our education system that allows us to compete with China, India and others; an end to the war in Afghanistan so we can use some of that money to reduce the deficit, and to make certain that Social Security and Medicare are not privatized in any way,” Jackson continued.

A relative newcomer to politics, Jackson joins four other Democratic candidates in the June 26, 2012 Democratic primary.
