Peekskill Democrats Endorse Rich Becker to Challenge Republican Nan Hayworth for Congress

The Peekskill Democratic City Committee voted unanimously Thursday to endorse Rich Becker as the Democratic candidate for Congress in the 19th Congressional District. The 19th Congressional District includes Northern Westchester, Putnam and parts of Orange, Dutchess and Rockland Counties and is currently represented by Tea Party-Republican Dr. Nan Hayworth. In choosing Becker, Peekskill's Democrats made clear they want to send a representative to Washington who will look out for the middle class, protect social security, stand with veterans and support legislation that will protect the environment. Unfortunately, since assuming office last year, Hayworth has marched in lock-step with the far-right wing of the Republican Party. She voted to end the payroll tax for middle class families, argued we should hold disaster aid to the Hudson Valley hostage to force draconian cuts to important social programs, and voted to end Medicare and turn it into a private voucher program. Dr. Hayworth has been dispensing some bad medicine in Washington and its time to replace her with a good doctor.  That's why the Peekskill Democrats enthusiastically support Dr. Rich Becker for Congress.

New Chairwoman for the Peekskill Democrats, Marina Ciotti said, "Rich Becker stands out among all the candidates who have stepped forward in this election.  He is ready to take on the Tea Party and go toe to toe with Nan Hayworth. We have an amazing group of dedicated candidates vying for the opportunity to go up against Nan, but Rich, in our view, is best prepared to take it all the way to November and defeat Nan." Ciotti added, "We look forward to working with Rich Becker and his campaign team to ensure his victory in November. This is a very important election and the Peekskill Democrats are committed to doing their part to help".
