Wear Purple Oct. 19 for Domestic Violence Awareness

From Peekskill Police Lieutenant Cathy Johansen:

Although October is more commonly known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence would like all New Yorkers to know that October is also Domestic Violence Awareness month.  It is unfortunate that in Peekskill, the police department sees way too many cases of violence between domestic partners, boyfriends & girlfriends, and those who share children in common documenting 74 more calls this year than last year at this time.   The effects of this violence are staggering and long ranging.  Many of us know of at least one person who is or has been a victim of such abuse.

The NYS Office for Prevention of Domestic Violence is asking everyone to show their support for the Awareness of Domestic Violence by wearing purple often during the month of October but especially on Wednesday, October 19, the date they are suggesting that all New Yorkers wear purple to show their support.  It will be our small contribution to showing that we support Domestic Violence Awareness.
