The City of Peekskill Youth Bureau held a canned food drive from oct. 17 to Nov. 18, coordinated by Kaitlin Singleton. Their goal was to make 50 Thanksgiving baskets for family in need and they surpassed that goal by five baskets. Each had a turkey or roaster with all the trimmings.
Recipients of the baskets were selected by Peekskill Agencies Together members and Youth Bureau staff, who delivered the goods using Peekskill’s trolley Stella.

“We would like to thank everyone that donated turkeys and canned food for our drive,” said Singleton.
Each basket recipient was also invited to attend the Youth Bureaus’s 3rd annual Pre-Thanksgiving intergenerational dinner coordinated by Darryl Francis. The dinner was held not only for Thanksgiving, but also in celebration of National Youth Month. About 65 Peekskill area residents attended the dinner, where the Mason Brothers of Peekskill came and presented five baskets to families.

Councilwoman McGowan and Youth Board Members were on hand to assist with the festivities for the evening. The Birdsall House, Quiet Man Public House, Rubens Café, La Viletta, Salvation Army, Bruno’s Deli and ShopRite also made generous donations. The Youth Bureau extends a special thank you to all the parent volunteers that helped prepare and serve the food.
