City Council Honors Young Track Stars

The six local youth have qualified for the National Cross Country Competition.

The Peekskill City Council honored six local track athletes for qualifiying for the National Cross Country Competition at its City Council meeting Tuesday night. Peekskill runners London Claxton (Oakside Elementary), Nolan Defreitas (St. Columbanus), Chelsea Ogindo (Peekskill Middle School), Nina Acevido and Cortlandt runners Kunal Shah and Lauren Aviles, received Certificates of Appreciation from Mayor Mary Foster.

The Mayor honored the coaches, Ted Bitter of the Striders and Sharon Bronner of the NY Starz, for their commitments to their teams. The coaches thanked the kids for their talent and hard work and also recognized parents for helping the young runners see success.
