Cortlandt Man Arrested Following Burglary Spree
A Cortlandt man was arrested for burglarizing Carmel and Cortlandt bike shops.

On Nov. 23 the New York State Police at Cortlandt arrested Walter G. Buchner, age 48, of Cortlandt Manor, New York, following a lengthy investigation into several burglaries which had been committed as bicycle shops in the towns of Cortlandt and Carmel, New York.
During the course of the investigation conducted by Investigators Sean J. Morgan and David W. Atkins, with assistance from the Town of Carmel Police Department, Walter G. Buchner was identified as a potential suspect. As a result of that information, Buchner was placed under surveillance.
In the early morning hours of Nov. 23, Troopers Heather L. Sinkowitz and Kevin T. Quintero were conducting surveillance on Buchner when he went to "Danny's Cycles" in the Cortlandt Town Center. As Buchner began to break into the store, the Troopers identified themselves. Buchner fled and police chased him on a short foot pursuit before taking him into cutoday. Â

A Search Warrant served at Buchner's residence later in the day revealed he was still in possession of stolen property from three previous burglaries.
Buchner was charged with two counts of third-degree Burglary, and one count of third-degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, all felonies. He was arraigned and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail. He is due to reappear in Cortlandt Town Court on Monday, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.
