Cortlandt Police Blotter: Kohl's Shoplifter, Mailbox Vandalism and Siphoned Home Heating Oil

Thursday, Feb. 28:

5:12 p.m. – A resident of Maple Avenue reported to Westchester County Police that his mailbox had been vandalized and mail was stolen from it in recent days.

Wednesday, Feb. 27:

4:37 p.m. – A resident of Floral Road called Westchester County Police to report a suspicious person on her street. The resident said a man came to her door soliciting roofing work and claiming that he had done work for other homeowners nearby. The resident said the man had no vehicle with him and was she not aware of any roofing work done recently by neighbors. An officer responded but the man had left the area.

Tuesday, Feb. 26:

2:26 p.m. – A resident of Lexington Avenue in Mohegan Lake reported that home heating oil was apparently siphoned from a tank outside her home. The resident said the 500-gallon tank was three-quarters full when she last checked it on Feb. 5.  On Feb. 23, she noticed that the tank’s fill cap was off and that there were only a few gallons left in the tank.

Monday, Feb. 25 – 2:07 p.m. – A 44-year-old Peekskill woman was charged with Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor, after she was detained by security at Kohl’s department store on Route 6 and accused of shoplifting. She is accused of trying to leave the store with three sets of earrings valued at $53.
