Crews Work on Water Main Break on Maple Ave.

The water main broke around 2:30 a.m.; residents can expect water restored within a few hours.

Update: The water main break was repaired by around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A water main break on Maple Avenue at the intersection of Ferris Street around 2:30 a.m. has Peekskill Water Department crews working as quickly as possible to repair. The 100-year-old pipe was burst by heavy rock, a typical cause of main breaks. But the section where the pipe broke is unusually rocky, which has required a few more workers and longer hours to fix it.

“It affects probably about 50 houses,” said Assistant Superintendent of the Water Department Vince Powell at the site of the break. “We isolated it as much as possible this morning,” he said. The break has affected water pressure in other parts of the city as well.

Crews have been out since the middle of the night and Powell hopes to have the pipe replaced by around 3 p.m. today.

The Peekskill Highway Department is also on site directing traffic.
