“I think it was a positively run campaign and we just talked about the work that we wanted to continue on the village’s infrastructure,” Knickerbocker said. “That’s what the residents wanted. They just want to keep the village moving forward.”
Knickerbocker was the top vote-getter with 263 votes. Jackson received 248. Donahue trailed with 164 votes.
A retired state trooper who had been mayor for six terms, Donahue ran on the Republican ballot line.
Knickerbocker, an independent, and Jackson were the Democratic candidates. Jackson was appointed as village trustee after Jane Hitney stepped down.
Knickerbocker is in her second stint on the board. She served as village trustee from 1994-98 and then was re-elected in 2009.
Poll workers said the turnout for this year’s election was lower than it was last year because there wasn’t mayoral race.
Tuesday’s weather and school delays also contributed to a slower voter turnout earlier in the day.
