District 19 Forum, Black History Month Essay Contest, 5K Run for Heroes
Here are five things you need to know today, Jan. 26.

1. The District 19 Congressional Democratic Primary Forum
The Peekskill Democratic City Committee is hosting a forum at 7 p.m. in the in the Peekskill Field Library building. The forum will feature Mayor Tom Wilson of Tuxedo Park, Town of Cortlandt Councilman, Richard Becker and Wappingers Falls Mayor, Matt Alexander, and Duane Jackson, the four candidates in the running for the seat representing the 19th Congressional District, currently held by Republican Nan Hayworth. Each candidate will have the opportunity to introduce himself to the audience and answer a few questions.

4. Local Students on College Dean’s Lists
Congratulations to Katherine C. Carlson of Cortlandt Manor, a junior majoring in innovation and entrepreneurship / pre-physical therapy, was who was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2011 semester at Clarkson University; and to Melissa Danko of Cortlandt Manor, who is studying art therapy and was named to Springfield College’s Dean’s List.
5. Black History Month Nominees
In honor of black history month the is holding a teen essay contest. Here are the instructions:
Choose an African-American that has inspired you and discuss in 250-300 words his or her contributions to this country, and how this person has influenced your life.
Two winners will be chosen: one from grades 6-9, and one from grades 10-12. Each winner will receive two passes to the UA Cortlandt Stadium 11 Movie Theatre in  the Cortlandt Town Center.*Â
Winners will be chosen based on essay content and form.Â
Entries may be submitted in person at the reference desk or via email to: jdaddio@westchesterlibraries.org. Â Include your name, age, grade, and contact information on your submission.
The deadline is Saturday, February 18th. Â
