Entergy Plans Brief Indian Point Unit 3 Removal from Service to Reconnect Transformer

Unit 3 will be removed from service tonight.

This information is from : Control room operators will briefly remove Indian Point’s unit 3 nuclear power plant from service this evening in order to reconnect the plant’s auxiliary electrical transformer. The plant has been operating since March 1 after being taken out of service on Feb. 29 to disconnect the transformer for a precautionary repair.

The auxiliary electrical transformer takes electricity from the plant’s main electrical generator and reduces its voltage to power various plant equipment. Unit 3 operated between March 1 and April 10, using a separate source of electrical power for use on site while repairs to the transformer were being made.

Workers repaired a tap changer, a part of the transformer that regulates the voltage output from the transformer.
