The Buchanan Engine Co #1 Ladies Auxiliary are having a Spaghetti Dinner at 5 p.m. at the Buchanan firehouse at 3159 Albany Post Rd. to benefit the Buchanan Engine Company.

Take the kids to visit the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. The free event features the playful art o the 1980s. Read more .

5. Happy(?) Friday the 13^th

The myth of Friday the 13^th comes from a belief that 13 is an unlucky number and Friday is an unlucky day. The actual origin of the superstition is unclear, although scholars believe it appears to be a tale in Norse mythology. Friday is named for Frigga, the free-spirited goddess of love and fertility who was banished in shame to a mountaintop and labeled a witch after her people converted to Christianity. Figga was believed to hold a meeting with 11 other witches and the devil (a total of 13) every Friday.
