Happy Hanukah, Holiday Concerts, Santa’s Helpers

Here are five things you need to know today, Dec. 21.

1.    Happy Hanukah

Last night was the first night of Hanukah, and Rabbi Lee Paskind of the First Hebrew Congregation held a ceremony for the festival of lights. Click here to view photos from the event.

2.    Holiday Concerts

Peekskill High School and are holding their holiday concerts tonight at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m respectively. Oakside’s second grade will also have a holiday sing-along today at 1:30 p.m.

3.    Santa’s Helpers at Hudson Valley Hospital Center

Santa’s helpers will be wrapping gifts for needy children at the lobby at 1 p.m. today. Santa will supervise the volunteers who will wrap more than 800 gifts for more than 100 children in need. Read more .

There are a lot of ways to give back to your community during the holidays and year round. If you decided you New Year’s Resolution will be to volunteer your time or expertise, check out of local and regional places that would be happy to have your help.

 5.    Hudson River HealthCare Launches HIV/AIDS website

launched UPWORDS Voices, a web-based virtual living quilt for people living/surviving with HIV & AIDS. The site will serve to unite the HIV positive community in the counties of Ulster, Putnam, Westchester, Orange, Rockland, Dutchess, and Sullivan.
