The rangers have set up a 350 to 500 acre containment area around the fire and are planning a prescribed burn this morning within the containment area in hopes of burning up the fuel, which is mostly grass, brush and a few trees. People can see and the fire from western Westchester County. It smells like a wood burning.
They are holding off on bringing in an aerial support until they see if the prescribed burn works, but they will re-assess around noon. So far no structures are being threatened, although the vacant Addison Boyce Camp is nearby. If there is a threat to the buildings there the Stony Point Fire Department will handle it. The fire is high on the mountain so as of now it is not causing any traffic problems. There has not been a cause determined.
