The Peekskill Youth Bureau’s wreaths and Christmas trees are now available and they are offering some of the lowest prices around. Call 734-8418 for more information or stop by the Youth Bureau on Main Street, next to City Hall.
4.    World AIDS Day
Today is World AIDS Day and Hudson River HealthCare and the Peekskill Youth Bureau are making a Tree of Life from driftwood taken from the Hudson River to raise funds for AIDS research. It is being built behind the Youth Bureau and will be installed at Pugsley Park. Stop by the Youth Bureau or HRHC to purchase a leaf for $1. All funds raised will go to AIDS research. There will be a candlelight ceremony and dedication of the Tree of Life at 5:30 p.m. Â
The day is also being observed in Yonkers with the tolling of bells, reading of names, and a ceremonial walk from Yonkers City Hall through Getty Square to the Riverfront Larkin Library where portions of the AIDS quilt will be on display. There will also be a poetry reading, a panel discussion and free HIV testing onsite. This year’s ceremony marks 30 years of the continuing effort to fight the epidemic here in Westchester and around the world.
The Peekskill drama students present a series of O.Henry’s plays. Show times are Friday, Dec. 2 and 3 at 7:30 in the PHS auditorium. Tickets are $10 and $7 for students and seniors. In honor of O. Henry’s gift of helping others, please bring a canned good offering to donate to Fred’s Pantry.
