Man Accused Of Trying To Kill Peekskill Resident

PEEKSKILL, NY — An arrest was made in a shooting in Peekskill Nov. 9 that left one man wounded in the leg.

The City of Peekskill Police Department said, shortly before noon Nov. 9, officers responded to reports of shots fired on Central Avenue near Washington Street.

On arrival, police found a 31-year-old Peekskill man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the upper leg.

Responding officers immediately performed life-saving measures on him, and he was taken to Westchester Medical Center in unstable condition.

Officers at the scene of the shooting found a loaded firearm discarded in a nearby wooded area. Information gathered early in the investigation led detectives to believe the victim and the shooter knew each other and that this was not a random act.

Around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Peekskill detectives, with the assistance of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, apprehended 19-year-old Dimitri Jones at a home in the 600 block of Roosevelt Avenue in Peekskill.

Jones was charged with multiple felonies, including second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.

He is expected to be arraigned in the Peekskill City Court Wednesday.
