May Day, Last Chance; Folks ‘Carry the Load’ for Veterans; Poetry Slam

1. Veterans Supporters “Carry the Load” Through Peekskill
A group organized by non-profit group “Carry the Load” will start a 1700-mile relay from West Point to Texas today. They will walk through Peekskill this afternoon to remind people of the importance of Memorial Day and to raise awareness for veterans organizations and military family support. Read more .

May Day is a tradition that dates back to ancient Rome and Greece, with roots in Celtic and Germanic festivals of old. It is also associated with the old Pagan calendar as the halfway mark on the year. 3. Poetry Slam at the Field Library
Tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. award-winning slam poet Roger Bonair-Agard will perform at the Gallery in the . He is a two-time National Poetry Slam Champion and veteran of HBO's Def Poetry Jam. Bonair-Agard is also the author of two books, artistic director and co-founder of the louderARTS Project, and poet in residence with VisionIntoArt, an interdisciplinary arts ensemble. Refreshments will be served.

4. Hen Hud Public Budget Hearing
The Hen Hud Board of Education is holding a public budget hearing at 8 p.m. at the Hendrick Hudson High School Wednesday.
5. Peekskill Board of Education
The BOE will hold a work session at 7 p.m. in the Administration Center.
