Memorial Day Ceremonies, Parades and Events

Celebrate Memorial Day all weekend at these local events.

Local veterans organizations and municipalities are organizing many events to remember those who have served in our armed services and who have passed. Find out how you can pay respect to our fallen soldiers in the list below.

Peekskill Memorial Day Ceremony

When/Where: Monument Park, Monday, May 28 at 10 a.m. Monument Park is off N. Division Street/Higland Avenue in Peekskill. 

 

Buchanan/Verplanck/Montrose Memorial Day Parade

When/Where: Buchanan, Monday, May 28 at 11 a.m.

 

Mohegan Lake Fire Annual Memorial Day Service

When/Where: Monday, May 28, 10 a.m. at the Shrub Oak Honor Roll on East Main Street and Memorial Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. at Town Hall.

Memorial Day Carnival

When/Where: Riverfront Green, Thursday, May 24 through Monday, May 28. The event is designed to raise funds to help underwrite the costs associated with the annual Peekskill Celebration and for charitable initiatives sponsored by the Peekskill Lions Club.

Traditional carnival rides, fun booths, food vendors and midway action will be part of the family fun weekend. Admission to the park is free; ride tickets are available for purchase at the park. Read more details on tickets and hours . 

Memorial Day Party

When/Where: The Cove, Peekskill. Friday, May 25, through Sunday, May 27. There will be live music, a BBQ and clambake, popcorn, cotton candy machines and more. 

South Salem Memorial Day Races

When/Where: Monday, May 28, 7 a.m. at 15 Main St, the Lawn. 

There is a medley of races South Salem on Memorial Day. The 10K will start at 8 a.m.  The 5K will start at 9:30 a.m. The Challenge Run is a chance to run the 10K and the 5K.  Awards will be presented for the top three male and top three female winners of this race. The Mile Fun Run is offered for those youth not ready to attempt the 5K, and will start at 10:45 am. The 5K Health Walk begins at 9:45 a.m. More than 200 children, ages 2 to 8, will compete in the “PeeWee Races” at 11 a.m.

Stay after the races for South Salem Presbyterian's Church 36th Annual Memorial Day Fair for food, live bands, shopping, games and inflatables for kids. This year, 10% of all registration fees will benefit the Forever Molly & Gregory Fund, which was established in partnership with the Katonah-Lewisboro Foundation in memory of Molly and Gregory Friedlander and their mother Amy.
