Peekskill Attorney Named 2022 State Senate Woman of Distinction

State Senator Pete Harckham said through the woman's efforts countless residents have roofs over their heads.

PEEKSKILL, NY — A Peekskill attorney with Legal Services of Hudson Valley was named a 2022 State Senate Woman of Distinction.

State Senator Pete Harckham, D-South Salem, recognized Tanya Dwyer, a community housing advocate, for the honor at a special ceremony.

"Tanya Dwyer has focused her entire career on helping others, especially less fortunate community members and workers with families in need of housing assistance," he said.

"Through her efforts, countless residents have a roof over their heads," Harckham said, "and thanks to her innovative, hands-on efforts she has made a positive impact in Peekskill and beyond."

During the ceremony, held in the Legal Services of Hudson Valley offices, Harckham presented Dwyer with the Senate Women of the Distinction Award and a Senate proclamation.

Dwyer began at Legal Services of Hudson Valley in 2018 as a foreclosure and bankruptcy attorney defending homeowners. The next year, she founded Parish House Inc., a nonprofit with a mission to build houses that are eco-friendly and affordable on a minimum wage salary.

She is chairwoman of the Peekskill NAACP Economic Sustainability Committee and is a volunteer for Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress.
