Peekskill-Cortlandt 2011 Election Guide

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8, when Peekskill-Cortlandt residents can make sure local government is hearing them by electing candidates to the Peekskill City Council, Peekskill Mayor, Cortlandt Town Board, Cortlandt Supervisor, and Westchester County Board of Legislators, as well as Cortlandt town justice.

Below is a guide to local and county races, including who is running on which party lines. Polls will be open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 8. To get more information about the new voting machines, click  and here.

Peekskill Elections

Members of the City Council serve a four-year term and are paid $8,500 per year. Here is who is running:

The mayor serves a two-year term and is paid $13,500 a year. The following individuals are running:

Cortlandt Elections

In Cortlandt, incumbent town supervisor Linda Puglisi (D, WF) is running unopposed for her position. Town Supervisor earn $116,000 per year. Incumbent town board members Francis Farrell (D, WF) and Richard Becker (D, WF) are also running unopposed for their positions, which pay $19,750 per year.

Incumbent town justices Daniel McCarthy (R,C,WSF, IN, GRE) is running for re-election against Frank Priolo (D, WF, GRE). Town justices earn $39,012 per year.

County Elections

The following individuals are running for two-year terms on the Westchester County Board of Legislators representing District 1 (Yorktown, Peekskill and Cortlandt, including Buchanan) and District 9 (Croton-on-Hudson, Cortlandt, Peekskill, Ossining, Briarcliff). Bill Burton, the current District 9 legislator is retiring this year.

State Elections

There are two open seats for the . The Ninth District represents  Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess and Putnam Counties. The following individuals are running for the 14-year terms, which pay $136,700 to start:

• Paul Marx (D, WF, IN)

From the City of Peekskill:

The Clerk’s office will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. to assist voters with questions or problems. The number there is (914) 737-3400.   Also, anyone needing a ride to their polling place, can call city hall and they will arrange for someone within their political party to pick them up and take them to vote.

Polling Places

 All polling places are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Use this polling place locator if you are not sure which district you are in.

Peekskill:

-Residents in districts 13 and 20 will vote at Centennial Fire House at 701 Washington Street.

-Residents in districts 6, 17 and 18 will vote at Columbian Hose Fire House at 1885 Main Street.

-Residents in districts 3, 4, 5, 14, 15 and 21 will vote at Hillcrest Elementary School located at 99 Leda   Drive

-Residents in districts 1 and 2 will vote at the neighborhood center located at 4 Nelson Ave.

-Residents of districts 7, 8, 16, 19, and 22 will vote at Peekskill High School at 1072 Elm Street.

-Residents of Districts 9, 10 and 11 will vote at Peekskill Middle School located at 212 Ringgold Street.
