Peekskill Jazz and Blues Fest Proposal Being Accepted, Miss Ethnic Queen Pageant Info Session Scheduled

Five things you should know for today, March 13.

1.) Book Babies at The Field Library

The Field Library, located at 4 Nelson Ave. in Peekskill, is hosting book babies today at 11 a.m. Book babies is an interactive program for children up to the age 3  and their caregivers.  There will be stories, songs, fingerplays, puppets and play time. No sign-up is necessary.

2.) Volunteer Appreciation Night Offered at Participating Restaurants

The Division Street Grill, located on North Division Street in Peekskill, and Thyme, located on 3605 Crompond Rd. in Yorktown Heights, is offering volunteers 20 percent off of their food and soft drink dinner checks today if they bring proof that they volunteer—anywhere. 3.) Applications are being accepted for the Miss Ethnic Queen Pageant

An information session is being held for the Just The Place’s annual Miss Ethnic Queen pageant today at 5:30 p.m. inside the Peekskill Youth Bureau. The pageant, which is coming to Westchester County for the first time this spring, has for levels of competition:  Little, for ages 4-7; Jr. Miss, for ages 8-12; Teen Miss, for ages 13-17; and Young Miss, for ages 18-21.  Participants will be judged on appearance, performance, evening wear, and personality. 4.) Bear Mountain Bridge Road Reopened

Bear Mountain Road Bridge was reopened Tuesday after the state Department of Transportation closed it to make emergency repairs. The road was closed due to the formation of a sinkhole.

5.) Proposals are Being Accepted for the Management of Peekskill’s Jazz Fest

The BID has released the 2013 Request for Proposals (RFP) for Event Management of the upcoming 7th Annual Jazz & Blues Festival, to be held in downtown Peekskill on Saturday, July 27th, 2013.  The BID will accept proposals from  qualified organizations and/or individuals for the operation, management and associated sponsorship/fundraising activities involved in presenting the festival until 5pm on Wednesday, March 20th. The Annual Peekskill Jazz & Blues Festival attracts thousands of people from across the tri-state area, and has become one of Westchester’s premiere summer musical and creative events.
