City leaders started the New Year with an official oath of office.
On New Year’s Day Peekskill elected leaders were officially sworn into office at Peekskill City Hall. Council members Darren Rigger, Kathie Talbot, Don Bennett and Mayor Mary Foster all took an oath of office at the afternoon ceremony. The four swept the Nov. 8 election with 1,720 votes for Rigger, 1,796 votes for Talbot, 1,822 votes for Bennett and 1,918 votes for Foster. Â
Council members Marybeth Mcgowan, Andrew Torres and Drew Claxton will be up for reelection this fall.
Rigger and Talbot are new to the city council and are replacing Joe Schuder and Patricia Riley. This is Bennett’s third term as a council member and Foster’s third term as mayor. She served as a council member prior to her 2007 election to mayor. The mayor’s term is two years and council members’ terms are four years.
