[Hen Hud, Lakeland Schools Cancel After School Activities Monday

UPDATE, 6 p.m.: Hendrick Hudson and Lakeland school have cancelled afterschool activities today in of tonight storms. Check back for information on closing and cancellation as they become available.

Peekskill's winter parking restrictions will go into effect tonight in anticipation of the wintry mix that is forecast for the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, effective  4 p.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The forecast is calling for a 30 percent chance of snow Monday, mainly after 4 p.m. More rain, snow and sleet is forecast for the area tonight, before 1 am. and then rain and sleet. The wintry mix is expected to continue until 5 a.m Tuesday.

Snow and sleet accumulations are expected to range from 2 to 4 inches.

On Tuesday, there will be rain, mainly before 2 p.m., with a high in the low-40s. Winds will continue from the east at 5 to 13 mph, becoming northwest in the afternoon. New precipitation could be between a quarter and a half inch.

So far, the weather service is predicting mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low 40s for Wednesday through Friday.

The following announcement was sent by Peekskill police today regarding parking restrictions for tonight.

Due to the forecast of a winter storm, The City of Peekskill is announcing a Winter Parking Weather Alert that will be in effect from 8 p.m. tonight until it is officially rescinded.  Accordingly, all overnight parking (8 p.m. to 8 a.m.) on nonalternate side streets is prohibited. 

Overnight parking will be permitted on the streets where alternate side of the street parking is permitted. 

Motorists are cautioned to follow the posted signs and ensure they are on the proper side of the street to avoid being ticketed (Alternate Side Parking is for a 24 hour period).

Parking between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. is prohibited on any street that does not 
have winter/alternate side parking signage.

Vehicles found in violation of this ordinance (CC290-24 and 290-35) will be towed at the owner’s expense and fined $50.  Motorists are asked to cooperate to ensure that snow removal operations can be completed without hindrance from illegally parked vehicles.

The Winter Parking Weather Alert will be rescinded once snow removal operations are completed, not at the conclusion of the storm.
