Find Out Why Peekskill-Cortlandt Is the Place to Party This Weekend, May 4-6

Peekskill and Cortlandt are ready to party this weekend. With Peekskill's large Cinco de Mayo celebration, Beale Street Barber Shop business opening, fishing derby, Best of 12 Grapes Party, and Cortlandt's Hen Hud Leos Stay Awake-a-thon and "My Fair Lady," there are a plethora of public events to choose from, and most are free!

Peekskill will close down several streets from 1 to 11 p.m. on May 5 for Cinco De Mayo and N. Division Street between Park and Main Streets will be closed on Sunday, May 6 from 3 to 10:30 p.m. for the 12 Grapes’ 1,000^th live music performance celebration.

Cortlandt Events, May 4-6

When/Where: Saturday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m. to Sunday, May 6 at 6 a.m.,  2166 Albany Post Road in Montrose, New York.

Why Go: This annual event raises thousands of dollars and draws hundreds to stay up all night in support of cancer organizations. This year’s fundraising will go to the new Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Hudson Valley Hospital Center and to Happiness is Camping, a camp for kids with cancer. Organizers hope to raise $75,000, so help them reach their goal!  The event features two young cancer survivors include a ten-year-old boy, who will speak at the opening ceremony. There will also be live music, dance, psychic readings, free yoga, food and many other kids of fun.

The event also includes a ceremonial lighting of luminary bags, which are decorated in remembrance of those whose who lost their battle to cancer.

Saturday, May 5

• 5:30 PM—Dinner prepared by volunteers and donated by Coles Market will be
• served to Cancer Survivors and their families.
• 7:00 PM—Opening Ceremony emceed by Kacey of WHUD. The National Anthem will be sung
• by 3 Hendrick Hudson High School students who recently performed at
• Carnegie Hall. Remarks of cancer survivor Brian Kenny.
• 10:00 PM—Luminaries Lighting—Participants will light luminaries to remember
• those in their life who lost their battle to cancer
• 7:45 PM to 10:00 PM—Food, games, raffles, music and other types of entertainment, including performances by:
• Hudson Dance & Tumble
• The Dance Company
• Dance Expression
• Hen Hud School District’s Music Teacher Doug Frank’s band “Neutral, No Brakes” will perform
• Male Beauty Contest
• Midnight—Stay Awake-a-Thon Idol

• 6:00AM—Closing Ceremony

When/Where: Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at 8 p.m.

Why Go: In celebration of the 30^th Anniversary of the Performing Arts Center (PAC) the Panas Players present the musical production of “My Fair Lady” this weekend at Walter Panas High School.

In the main lobby there will be a complimentary dessert reception both nights at 6:45 p.m. to celebrate the PAC's 30th Anniversary!

Price: The ticket price is $10.00 and can be reserved by calling (914)739-2823 ext.555. Reservations are strongly recommended as past shows have been sold out, but tickets may also be purchased at the door.

Peekskill Events:

When/Where: Friday, May 4, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Why Go: Mother’s Day is next Sunday (May 13), and the Field Library is hosting Peekskill artist Lavinia Wiggins, who is holding a card making class for teens in grade 6 and up. All supplies will be provided and the class is free. The kids will be creating handmade waterfall cards. Interested teens should sign up at the reference desk in the library.

Why Go:  New Jersey’s own Southside Johnny is bringing his new band, Southside Johnny and the Poor Fools to the Paramount. They will embark on a stripped down journey through Johnny Lyon's eclectic version of the Great American Songbook. Playing a wide range of music from Dylan, Mose Allison, Muddy Waters, NRBQ, Richard Thompson, Emmylou Harris, The Band, George Jones and more, The Poor Fools will also dive into some of the legendary Asbury Jukes material--revisiting the classics as well as the underperformed deep track.

When/Where: Saturday, May 5, 1 to 11 p.m., downtown Peekskill/

Why Go: It is a Mexican fiesta to celebrate the culture, heritage and pride. Peekskill streets will be closed all day from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Ruben’s café will be holding a party with many Hispanic acts including Los Leales, Los Rufianes and more.

When/Where: 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., South Street, Peekskill

Why Go: This is a cool new place – barbershop, art gallery, vintage store, music venue- to check out. Plus, Elvis will be performing at 6 p.m. Browse some unique vintage jewelry and the antique furniture and décor in the shop, meet the owners, Danna and Mark Sinnis and learn about the newest hang out spot in town. *Melvin T. Bolden Fishing Derby

When/Where: Saturday, May 5, 8:30 a.m. at Lake Mitchell in Depew Park

Why Go: Children age 14 and under are invited to try their luck at the Fishing Derby on May 5. Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish caught and the most fish caught.  Registration is at 8:30 am and fishing begins at 9:00 am.

Price: Free

When/Where: Sunday, May 6, 3 to 10 p.m.,

Why Go: Go for the more than six hours of non-stop music of almost every genre and more than 50 performers. They are anticipating hundreds to attend.
Some artists planned to attend are: Petey Hop (host), Jon Cobert, Geoff Hartwell, Dave Keyes, The Chris O'Leary Band, Johnny Feds, Tommy "Blues Buddha", Duchess Di, Curtis Winchester, Tom Dowd, JP Patrick, Dave Fields, Steve Chizmadia, Steve Wexler, John Hahn, Elliiot Bear, Andrew Bordeaux, Andrea Ekizian, Chris Burke, Mishti Roy, Rich Kelly, Chris Fox, Mike Bram, Joe Piteo, Eric Haight, Al Frankel, Mike Wise, Dave McDowell and many more. 

Talented young performers include Manny Henry, acoustic duo The Knox Sisters, and a Rock/Blues group called The Flaming Meatballs. Check 12 Grapes website for updates on the performers.
