Teenager Caught with Narcotics, Pills; Purse Snatching at Shop Rite; DWI Detail

Arrests made by the New York State Police at Cortlandt.

Man Arrested Following Cortlandt Purse Snatching Attempt

On Dec. 17 at about 4:30 p.m. units from the New York State Police at Cortlandt responded to the parking lot of on Route 6 in Cortlandt following a report of an attempted purse snatching. The police interviewed the victim, a 67-year-old female, and witnesses and learned that 25-year-old Devin P. Gallagher, who police report as homeless, had attempted to steal the victim’s purse. When she realized what Gallagher was doing she called for assistance and several good Samaritans rushed to help her. At that point, the suspect handed the purse back to the victim and fled the area.

Responding troopers got a quick description of the subject and getaway vehicle and figured out where the suspect was staying. Police set up surveillance and when they saw Gallagher emerging he was taken into custody.

The defendant was charged with one count of fourth-degree Attempted Grand Larceny. He was arraigned in the Village of Croton Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $5000 bail. His next Court appearance is in Cortlandt Town Court on Monday, Dec. 19 at 9 a.m.

14-Year-Old Caught with Narcotics and Pills

On Dec. 16, the New York State Police at Cortlandt responded to the Cortlandt Town Center to investigate a report of an altercation. During interview of one of the participants, a 14-year-old male, the subject was found to be in possession of several different narcotics and prescription drugs which the subject could not prove legal possession of.

The subject was charged with one count of felony fourth-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and he was released to his legal guardian. He was issued an Appearance Ticket directing him to appear in Westchester County Family Court on December 27th, 2011, at 9:00 a.m.

The name and address of the subject is being withheld due to his age.

The arrest was made by Trooper Ryan F. Keller and Investigator Sean J. Morgan.

 

DWI Detail

On Dec. 15 New York State Police conducted a DWI sobriety enforcement detail on Route 9 in  Cortlandt. The detail started at 8 p.m. and lasted 7 hours and yielded the no arrests and 31 tickets for vehicle and traffic violations, including speeding.
